Lets Stop the Web Developer's Gravy Train

These experienced agents know that expensive web sites with all the bells and whistles and uploading of your listings are a total waste of money. They tell me the most important thing their sellers want to know is when will their home appear on realtor.ca.

Many Real Estate Web Companies charge us $400 to $600 a year. They sell us bells and whistles telling us how to sell real estate and it doesn't work.

Real Estate Web Developers have never sold a house and are trying to tell us how to do it. It's just like appliance salespeople. They sell a dishwasher with all the bells and whistles and when we get it home we rarely ever use more than the one button. These web designers are getting rich off us and for no good reason.

Most of the Realtor Web Sites are nothing more than an online business card. We fill them with all kinds of buttons and clicks and links that go all over the place and in most cases people just "Google" those pages in their searches and rarely ever use our pages for searches.

I received an email from a Web Developer saying "Real Estate Web Sites That Get Results". That is just a lot of bolognia and is absolutely not true. How would a Web Developer know what gets results. They are not agents. We are agents and know what we have to do to get leads. Please DO NOT listen to them unless you enjoy giving them a monetary gift every monthly and getting nothing in return.

I have also received email from a Web Developer who is very upset I am doing this at such a low price. I say "Tough". So does Wal-Mart do things for a lower price and look at them.

Yes we do need a web site and in most cases it has become just a "Cyber Business Card".

FREE EVALUATION pages? Forget them. They don't work. Everyone knows they can get a free evaluation from just about any agent they call. I recently called a number of agents I know and asked them how many FREE EVALUATION request they got and the answer was NONE!

You could simply use www.OurTopAgent/yourname or you could purchase your domain www.YourName.com and forward it to the URL that we would provide for you. They cost about $8.00 to $13.00 depending where you buy them. GoDaddy seems to be about the best price around.

I created my own web page over the Holdays in 1994/95 when the only web browser out there was Netscape Navigator and have had my own domain since then. I have been licensed to sell real estate since 1980 in Ontario so I am talking from experience. I also have written and teach a two RECO course for 3 Credits each.
